Coworking to Corporate

November 27, 2008

I recently submitted a conference proposal on the subject of coworking. The challenge is/was to explain coworking to an audience of corporate real estate, human resources, finance, and information technology professionals. What follows is an early draft of the of the first part of the proposal.

The Emerging Ecology of Work and Workplace

October 1, 2008

Recently posted to the Coworking Google Group.  Reposted here as a lead in to a series of posts of the emerging ecology of work/workplace.
After a year of living the life of a working nomad, and after many conversations with both coworkers, independents, entrepreneurs, as well as people in corporate HR and Real Estate, it's clear [...]

101 Stories from the Future of Work

September 23, 2008

Well guys, we are drawing near.
Tony, Todd and I have been hard at work on our 'coworking book' for many months now, and we are close indeed.  The book has evolved into being about more than coworking.  What we have encountered in our journey into coworking is a glimpse into the Future Of Work.
Coworking is, indeed, a key ingredient [...]

An Observation on the State of the Bandwagon

September 12, 2008

If you type "coworking" or "coworking" and the name of a city into Google the sponsored links increasing look like the following:

I have no idea whether or not this is good or bad. I have no doubt that a group of people could come together and turn a corner of a rent-a-desk into a [...]

Back on Tour… Jelly in Roswell

August 20, 2008

During our visit to Roam, we learned that the Roswell Jelly was meeting a short distance down the road.  We caught up with Randall again (we're not sure if that's his real name and we don't know for certain what he does) and met Kevin Bachman and the entire crew (and Scott, who was previously [...]

On Site at Roam Atlanta

August 20, 2008

We're on site at Roam Atlanta today.  Roam is an "innovative meeting, dining, and gathering place for a new progressive workforce."  Roam isn't coworking--it's a space and a set of great services that support business men/women, independents, etc.--but it's clearly trying to be supportive of the movement--the local Jelly meets here, free of charge, a [...]

The Business of Coworking, Part II

August 15, 2008

A few months ago I wrote a piece on the Business of Coworking.  It received a decent amount of attention, both positive and negative.  Frankly, more negative than anything, but that was the point.
Can coworking be a business?  Should it?
Clearly there are different answers that can be provided here.  What I am interested in [...]

Transient Business Space in NYC

August 1, 2008

I'm in town from out of town. I need the Internet--I have a presentation/demonstration at 3pm. I'm going to be talking, perhaps loudly. I don't want the sound of a barista banging away in the background. What do I do? More to the point, where do I go?
This is just [...]

Antipreneurs and Apple Pie

July 3, 2008

This year marks the third year in a row that we've been outside the US for the 4th of July.  That's a real bummer, because my brother's birthday is on July 4th and I love to hoist a beer with him on his day.
Thinking and writing from France this week, I'm coming to a clearer perspective on the [...]
