InnovationCamp is an ad hoc, unconference for people who want to learn about innovation by doing rather than by listening. It’s also a mashup intended to get the people necessary for ground-breaking innovation together in one place—executives, entrepreneurs, users, engineers, designers, managers, anthropologists, artists.

With Julie Gomoll’s help, InnovationCamp now has a date (Saturday, June 28, 2008) and a place (GSD&M Idea City in Austin, TX). Austin’s a little warm in June, but it has a very accessible business and creative community—essential ingredients for a good first run. If it gets too warm, we’ll all go swimming.

Frankly, I’m jacked about this. A few months ago, John Metcalf made a comment on his blog:

these corporation need some internet culture injected into their bubble. or maybe that would be their downfall.

how do you possibly penetrate some of these large corp. ..maybe the key is to creating small teams with living by the new culture and let them slowly infect the beast.

And this is exactly the point. To be fair, there are things to be learned all the way around the table, but one way to take InnovationCamp is as a cross-pollination of cultures at a point in time when corporations need to learn and master innovative thinking—step #1.

oh man. thanks for the quote. have i told you how much i love you guys? everything you work on is so kick ass and so necessary. you’ve got the info. you’ve got the knowledge. you have a core following.

everything is so right on. your book and InnovationCamp i think are really poised to take off. need to make sure the right audiences hear about all this and that the concept/need is easy for people to understand and spread. (”grok and go” -perhaps. :)

    *props*
