I’m stuck on this rubber and road bit This morning I’m reading an article in Austin Monthly magazine called 50 Ways to Reduce Your Eco-Footprint, and I come across #46:
#46-Work From Home: In the piece, it says: “Since 1990, the number of teleworkers in this country has increased from 4 million to almost 20 million…It increases productivity (much more uninterrupted work time), improves employee morale and often means dollars saved.”
Clearly, the world wastes loads and loads of energy and pollutes the world massivley by commuting to jobs that can be done at home. This is obvious.
Which raises the question of where does coworking fit into the Work From Home part of it? We all want to be free from the dickheads at corporate. That goes without saying. But by reaching out to others to work amongst like minded people in this wonderful and growing community, we too drive about and kill the planet.
What gives?
Where is the trade-off between reducing our ecological footprint, on the one hand, and our need for community, on the other?
I don’t know mine. Not sure I really want to know.
Ouch!
