The current issue of I.D. Magazine has their annual Design + Business review section.  In the piece, one particular article got my attention: Choose a Job, Choose a Life.  They asked a dozen designers ‘what was the best business decision you’ve ever made’?  Some of the answers were strategic in nature, others more poetic.  The following were my favorite.

There is no success without gratitude.  Because you can never give back more than what you did already receive. Marcel Wanders.

People who dream and make their dreams real will see the results of dreaming.  People who think only about business will never succeed in business.  It is a rule.  There is only intuition, love, generosity, respect, vision, humor, and workPhillippe Stark.

My best business decision was leaving the corporate world and starting something that had no promose of success.  Unfortunately, my father died before he could se what became of this decision.  He lived long enough, however, to cast his vote in South Africa’s first truly democratic electionRavi Naidoo

Much easier said than done, to be sure.  But work that isn’t connected with life is just…work.
