Coworking is still an edge phenomenon. Coworking and its flavors (Jelly, etc.) receive a small amount of press, and community discussion revolves around community-specific interests. But coworking smells and tastes (see Synesthesia) like a Next Big Thing to me, so I’m watching for the tipping point.
I’m watching in two ways. On the quantitative side of things, I’m maintaining a small handful of metrics about coworking. On the qualitative side of things, I’m watching what people are saying about coworking and how they are saying it.
For this reason, I get interested when companies name drop the “coworking” word. I spotted one today on a company blog—a blog about “communication, collaboration, and coworking online” by a company that makes a tool for “advanced online collaboration”. I understand the connection between communication, collaboration, and coworking—the giveaway is the fact that “coworking” is never mentioned in any post but is included prominently in the tags…
…almost as if it were added as an afterthought.

P.S. As soon as I figure out how to place iframes in a blog post, I’ll link to the metrics.
